Environmental Permitting Programme
Environmental Permitting Programme – Second Phase (or EPP2 as it is commonly abbreviated
to), is a wholly new procedure, enabling owners of small sewage tanks (up to 50
population) to register for an exemption from the requirement for a Permit to Discharge.
To qualify for exemption owners have to meet with numerous requirements, many of
which concern the ongoing care and maintenance of the tank installed:
- Sewage tanks to be regularly inspected and maintained by a competent wastewater
professional (holding industry training certification), even within the first year
of service.
- The sewage system be operated and maintained in accordance with a maintenance plan
as specified within the manufacturers maintenance instructions, or manufacturing
industry code of practice guidelines.
- Servicing and maintenance records must be kept for a rolling period of five years.
- Regular desludging / emptying be performed by companies demonstrating competency
and a duty of care with regard to final disposal of the sewage waste residue.
